I have been DYING to photograph an Indian wedding for years. I saw one taking place when I was younger while staying at a hotel in DC and instantly fell in love with the vibrant colors and exotic music. It just looked like so much fun! So I was thrilled when Manisha + Matt asked us to be a part of their wedding day.
Before this wedding, David and I didn't know anything about Indian wedding traditions so we really had no idea what to expect. As soon as we arrived and I saw Manisha's stunning saree my jaw dropped. And then Matt entered the ceremony on a white horse during his baraat and my mind was blown.
What's a baraat you might ask? Well at Indian weddings the groom traditionally arrives on a white horse. His friends and family all gather around singing, dancing, and playing drums as they head toward the altar. It looked like SO much fun. My new life goal is to dance in a baraat.
Their ceremony was filled with so many meaningful traditions. They pledged their vows to each other around an Agni, a holy fire that acts as a witness to the ceremony. Then Manisha and Matt took seven steps together reciting the sacred pledge of Hindu marriage.
After the ceremony, Manisha changed into a stunning deep purple and gold velvet gown and Matt traded in his traditional attire for a tux.
The night was filled some of the best music and dancing I have ever seen at a reception. This was such a fun night with a fabulous group of people!
Here's a little peek into their wedding day! There's so many more photos to come in the next few weeks!
