At the end of August, David and I had the pleasure of photographing David + Kate's wedding day. They are two of the kindest, most sincere people you will ever meet...and I am being completely serious when I say that. After they got back from their honeymoon, Kate came by to drop of the sweetest gift (adorable Anthropologie coffee mugs with a J and D on them!) for me and David. And if that wasn't thoughtful enough, they even included a special treat for our pup Nala! That is the kind of people they are.
David + Kate have been together since high school and are living proof that high school sweethearts can live happily ever after. One of the things I love about them is how easy-going they are. They both have such big hearts and were so happy to be surrounded by so much love and support on their wedding day.
They are probably the only two people I know who are as obsessed with their dog, Louie (he looks just like a teddy bear!) as we are with ours. Kate even made sure to include him in a few wedding photos! She is the only bride I have ever seen pick their dog up while wearing her wedding dress. That's true love.
Their wedding took place downtown at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. That was a very special setting for their wedding because Kate's grandparents got married in that very church many moons ago. It truly was a stunning backdrop for Kate + David to officially become husband and wife.
The reception took place at the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing, which has the most gorgeous view of the river and the city. I honestly, don't think it could have been a more perfect day. Kate + David had an absolute blast dancing and spending time with all of their wedding guests.
They ended the night with a bubble send-off before heading off to their honeymoon!! We are so crazy happy for these two! Congratulations to the new Mr. + Mrs. Staples!!
Kate Says | David and I are high school sweethearts. I keep telling people we grew up together and now we get to grow old together. David proposed at one of our favorite places in Richmond, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. There were lots of people around, but just like when I walked down the aisle, it felt like it was just me and him.
We knew we wanted to get married at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. The church itself is beautiful, but it’s the community there that made our marriage so special. The past few years have been really busy for us, so we really love when we get to relax and have fun together on the weekends. We wanted our wedding reception to have a little bit of all the things we love about our weekends together: family, friends, food, football, music, the river, and of course, our sweet pup. We wanted it all to have a backdrop of the city where we fell in love, so the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing was a perfect choice. One of our favorite parts of our reception was our first dance -- we had everyone sing along which was such a fun way to kick off the celebrations with our family and friends.
Our vendors were truly amazing and our day felt so “us.” It all went by so fast, so our best advice to future couples is take a few moments to look at all the people around you and be grateful for them. Every one of them played a role in your happily ever after!
Thanks to all of the vendors who made their wedding day so amazing!!
