2013 was filled with some amazing weddings. Weddings generally follow a similiar format filled with main events such as a cake cutting and bouquet toss. It's the little things that make each wedding so unique and different. I love it when couples find sweet little embelishments that show their personality and really make their wedding special. This post is meant to inspire all of our 2014 brides and recap all of our favorite wedding trends of 2013. I hope this brings all of you a little inspiration, and we cannot wait to see what you decide to do for your own wedding!
We saw this at several weddings and thought it made the perfect cake topper. Not only do the flowers look and smell wonderful, they often help tie everything together. This cake was definitely a major focal point.
This was one of my favorite new trends. Mismatched, vintage china is one of my favorite things. Having mismatched china place settings at the wedding party's table was definitely popular this year. It is a great decorative touch, especially if you are trying to give your wedding a vintage or eclectic feel.
These bouquets smell so good! I thought this was a very simple yet unique touch. It is definitely cost effective and can really compliment the bridesmaid dresses. We have also seen this done quite frequently with baby's breath. I always love when brides incorporate the same flowers as the bridesmaids into their bouquets as an accent.
We saw so many creaitve guestbooks this wedding season. I love that couples are thinking outside of the box and finding/making guestbooks that are meaningful to them. This was one of my very favorites. The couple used a handwritten bible as their guestbook. Guests wrote their names and meaningful messages in colored pencil. This is definitely something the couple will treasure forever.
More and more brides are starting to have some fun with their wedding shoes! A popular trend right now is to wear wedding shoes that match your wedding colors.
Personalized hangers are one of my favorite trends. Every bride wants a photo of her wedding dress hanging, but nothing can ruin a photo like a cheap plastic hanger. I highly recommend getting a personalized hanger for your big day. It will make that photo of your wedding dress even more special. There are so many great options on Etsy to choose from.
I love it when couples have some fun with their wedding favors. Who doesn't love pie?! These personalized chocolate pies are probably my favorite wedding favor to date....it was definitely the yummiest.
Chalkboards were super popular this wedding season. They are a simple and stylish way to label all kinds of things at your wedding.
Vintage photos are another charming and economical embelishment to add to your big day. Your family members and friends will absolutely love looking at old photos of the two of you growing up or wedding portraits of your parents and grandparents.
There are a million different ways to use mason jars at weddings. They were by far the most popular trend in 2013. Using mason jars as cocktail glasses definitely adds a rustic feel and is always a big hit.
This might embarass the bride and groom a little, but everyone will love this. I think we are going to see this more and more throughout the 2014 wedding season.
No one wants to cry on their wedding day, but let's be honest...it's going to happen. This was the sweetest trend I came across. The bride has a white hankerchief and gets all of her bridesmaids kiss it and write a note. She holds the hankerchief with her bouquet as she walks down the aisle and can use it to blot tears away throughout the ceremony.
It can be hard to keep track of cards at the reception. Using vintage suitcases to store them is the perfect solution.
Not everyone loves cake. So many brides and grooms are finding delicious alternatives to the traditional wedding cake. Pie, doughnuts, cupcakes, and icecream bars were amongst some of the biggest trends in the 2013 season.
