5 Ways to Make Your Engagement Photos Unique

Engagement photos are one of my very favorite types of shoots. The couples are always so in love and just want to enjoy the experience together. Some shoots are adventurous, and we go on hikes or do some sort of unexpected activity. Others are filled with intimate moments and abundance of romance. There are some shoots where hysterical laughter is the main sound heard that day. Still there are others that take on more of a carefree and relaxed tone.

Every shoot is different and that's what makes what we do so much fun. We play off of each couple's personality to create an energy that represents their relationship and what makes their love so special.

Here are a few ideas of things you can do to make sure your personality shines during your engagement shoot!

1. Do an activity

For most people out there having your photo taken can be a little intimidating. A great way to loosen up and feel a little more comfortable is by doing an activity. Have a picnic, build a fire and roast marshmallows, stop and grab an ice cream cone, pop a bottle of champagne, go wine tasting, etc. Doing something fun will help take your mind off the camera and allow for more natural photos.

2. Choose a location you love

Choose a location that you love either for the gorgeous scenery or that is meaningful to the two of you as a couple. The adorable couple above choose to have their photos taken in the neighborhood surrounding the home they are going to live in once they tie the knot. It made the shoot extra special!

3. Use props

Props are great! I really encourage you to bring props that have some significance to the two of you as a couple. Adding in whimsical elements like flower crowns is always fun too!

4. Dress to your location

When it comes to what to wear to your engagement shoot, it's important to dress to your location. Choose an outfit that you feel comfortable in as well as something that matches the overall feel of your location. If you are going to be adventuring along the river for your engagement shoot, you might want to reconsider wearing high heels and a fancy dress.

5. Include fur babies

If you love your dog as much as we love ours, then chances are you are probably going to want your pup to be in a handful of your engagement photos. Having our dog hop in for a few photos is such a great idea because it gets your mind off the camera and makes it easier for the two of you to enjoy the moment. Just be sure to bring someone else along to care for your pup when they aren't in the photos and remember to bring a handful of your dog's favorite treats and toys! And a lint brush!!
