Which Headshot Style is Right For You?

A headshot is one of the most basic and straight forward types of photographs we take. But that one simple photo can say so much. A headshot is often someones first impresison of you, so you really want some key elements of your personality to shine through. 

It can be hard deciding what style and look to go with for this simple yet impactful photo. So here are a few things to consider!

Know your audience

Think about what type of people are going to be seeing your headshot. What is your relationship to them?

Is it your facebook friends? A potential new employer? Your instagram followers? Clients you hope to gain? 

How would you like to appear to them? Try to come up with three specific words you'd like your headshot to embody.

Know your industry

Every industry is different. A wedding planner's headshot is going to look very different than a lawyer's headshot because different personality qualities are valued in each industry. 

A wedding planner would want to appear friendly, engaging, and competent.

A lawyer would want to appear professional, serious, and powerful.

It's importrant that your headshot highlight those specific traits.

Wardrobe Matters

What you wear to our headshot session is the first step to setting the tone and look. I always recommend wearing solid colors in headshots because it creates and air of confidence and keeps the attention on your expression. 

If your are going for a professional look wear a blazer. If you are going for a more casual look, wear a cute blouse or button down shirt. 

And ladies, accessories matter! If you are going for a professional look keep your accessories minimal and understated. If you'd like a little more of persoanlity and style to show though, wear something a little bolder!

Select the right backdrop

The backdrop also sets the tone of your headshot. Should your photos be taken indoors or outdoors? Outdoor photos tend to be a little more casual and have a lifestyle feel to them. Do you want a traditional backdrop or would you like your office or studio to be the background?
