Date night engagement shoots have gotten so popular! And with Valentine's day right around the coner, there is no better time for this post. This post is going to take you through everything you need to know in order to plan the ultimate date night engagement shoot!

 

What is a date night engagement shoot?

Well, basically it is a photo shoot of a date! A lot of couples choose to have these photo taken at the restaurant where they had their first date, got engaged, or just a place that they love to frequent as a couple. You, eat, drink, talk, kiss, and we snap photos throughout the whole thing.

 

So now that you know what a date night engagement shoot is, here are a few tips for planning one of your own!

 

Call ahead

Make sure to call the restaurant ahead of time to confirm they will allow you to take photos there. Every restaurant is a little different. Some have special rooms they will allow photography in, some will allow you to photograph there before the restaurant opens, and others will let you do whatever you'd like. Just make sure you clearly understand the guidelines ahead of time.

 

Order drinks + snacks

You really want to make this shoot look like a real date, so order some food + drinks! I always think a glass of wine before a shoot is a good idea to help relax you a bit and ease the nerves. With date night engagement shoots, you get to sip your favorite drinks and nibble on your favorite snacks throughout the entire session - doesn't get better than that!

  

 

Take photos out front

To fully tell the story of the date, it's important to get a few photos walking up the street and in front of the restaurant. Make sure to grab a few photos of your significant other holding the door open for you and the two of you exiting hand in hand.

  

 

Include Signage

Make sure to get signage in a few of your photos! This really shows off the location. 

 

Explore the place

Don't feel confined to only grabbing photos sitting at a table. Walk around and keep your eyes peeled for fun little nooks and creative backdrops!

  

 

Show off the ring

Find a unique way to incude the engagement ring in a few shots! Hold a drink or using the menu are my two favorite ways!

 

The details matter

Getting close up shots of the small details like the menu or photos of just the drinks makes a huge difference and really ties the shoot together.

  

 

Make it romantic

Remember this is date, so it's important to get a few very intimate, romantic shots! Cuddle up, sneak kisses, and bring the heat! 

  

 

Find creative angles

Make sure to get photos that break the norm. Shoot around nooks or through windows or from across the room at create photos from an interesting perspective.

  

 

Action Shots

You need to make these shoots feel real! So make sure to get a few actions. Great ways to achieve this are by cheers-ing your glasses, ordering drinks, laughing, or looking at the menu.
