Maternity shoots have gotten super popular over the past few years. It is such a special time to be able to document in someones life. A lot of women come to us with questions before their maternity shoot. They have never done one before and are unsure of what to wear, when to have them taken, what to bring, etc.

Here are our answers to some basic questions that we get asked regularly. I hope this helps you prepare for your shoot and congratulations!

1. When should I have my maternity photos taken?

Every woman is a little different. It really depends how your pregnancy is going. You want to make sure you feel happy and healthy in your photos. For most women, the perfect time to have these photos taken is between 7 and 8 months. If you are having twins, I'd recommend doing it sooner (somewhere between 24-30 weeks).

2. What should I wear to my maternity shoot?

You want to wear something that highlights your growing belly. Avoid flowy shirts or dresses and instead opt for something a little more form fitting. Solid colors tend to photograph much better than heavy patterns.

3. Should I bring any props to my maternity shoot?

That is totally up to you! Usually most people bring one or two significant items to their shoot. Some popular items include: blocks, baby shoes, initials, and ultra sound photos.

4. Is it ok to include my husband, children, or dog in my maternity shoot?

Absolutely! We always encourage you to include your husband or significant other in the photos. If you have other children or your dog is a big part of your family, include them as well! This is such an exciting time, and we want to make sure we document all of it.
